Now beginning our sixth season, (started in December 2014), we meet about once a month to discuss a book one of us has chosen. Each member has one unchallenged choice per cycle. Over the years we have certainly read a wide range of genres and subject matters. After a usually quite lively discussion we score each book out of 10.
The person who chose the book hosts the meeting, and provides wine, beer and nibbles. Because we meet in our homes we have had to limit the number of members to around 12 and we currently have just one space.
Out of the 68 books we have read the most popular reads have been – two classics The Grapes of Wrath – John Steinbeck and To Kill a Mocking Bird – Harper Lee, followed by As I Walked Out One Midsummer’s Day – Laurie Lee, The Humans – Matt Haig , Long Lankin – Lindsey Barraclough and The Uncommon Reader – Alan Bennett.
